Julian is just now starting to talk a bit. He’s been a little slower to talk, I think because he gets what he needs via Baby Sign Language (which he’s been doing since 10 months, I think? It’s pretty awesome). His most-used signs are milk, eat, more, all done, and please. That covers everything a one-year-old needs, right? I swear, he smirks when he signs please, because I think it’s the cutest and he knows it gets him what he wants.
Before now, he’d occasionally knock our socks of by saying words… but just one time, no repeat performances, thankyouverymuch. The kid will not be coerced. More than a month ago, he said “thank you” to my mom, clear as day, just once.
Anyway, now at 16.5 months, he’s starting to say new words! It’s so exciting. Banana is a repeat favorite. He knows what a banana is and will say the word for actual bananas, but then last weekend, he pointed at everything in the store and said “banana!” In the video, you can see him say “banana” while he eats a piece of cheese, too. Ok, kid, whatever works for you!
This week, he’s had 3 big new words in frequent rotation:
- UH OH
- Mama <3 <3 <3
- Elmo (sounds like Mel-mo)
I am flattered to rate as highly as Elmo. ;)
